SYDNEY SMITH

ABOUT SYDNEY
Sydney began performing at a young age, expressing herself through dance styles such as ballet, jazz and hip-hop. As a working actor, this has equipped her with the skills to efficiently pick up choreography. She then moved into modelling and acting during her teenage years, signing with the Dubai-based Bareface Talent Agency when she was only twelve years old. She has since worked on commercial shoots and walked several charity fashion shows in Hong Kong. Having grown up in numerous countries, Sydney was exposed to a very diverse worldview which allowed her to explore different cultures, and gave her a deeper understanding of the importance of culture. She aims to apply this unique perspective to her acting by approaching every role with empathy and understanding, no matter the circumstances.
TRAINING
During her time at University for the Creative Arts, Sydney studied practitioners such as Stanislavski, Meisner, and Hagen. Additionally, Sydney worked alongside industry professionals such as Stephen North and Mike Sherman and received vocal training from Paula Stephens. She is versed in both classical and contemporary theatre, having performed both “Rose” in the American theatre play The Flick (directed by Mike Sherman) and “Miranda” in Shakespeare’s The Tempest where she was also selected as the Assistant Director to Gary Pillai. Sydney has worked with intimacy coordinator Pia Rickman and is aware of the industry standards around consent and performing choreographed intimacy in a safe working environment. Sydney has also been trained in Stage Combat by Bethan Clarke and can confidently perform punching, knives, falls and kicks.
Sydney has collaborated with many up-and-coming film directors at her time at U.C.A, acting in several short films of varying genres, granting her the opportunity to demonstrate her vast emotional range.
Sydney is currently seeking representation and hopes to be signed in the near future. Her main focus is performing in film and television and building an extensive screen portfolio.
